UST’s Neocentennial Celebration

Okay, I think this is the only time that I already felt the urge to finally post a blog after ages. It’s time to make it up to my followers (Yesss. Haha). So, my first blog for this year is regarding UST’s recent Neocentennial Celebration. It’s about the closing of Quadricentennial year and the welcoming of the next century.

The first activity for the week was Velada Tomasina where most of the Thomasian community wore period costumes to reminisce the Spanish Era.

There were horse-drawn carriages roaming around the campus and figures of heroes who graduated in UST scattered all over Lover’s Lane.The event was indeed very nostalgic.

Yes, the guards were dressed in their guardia sibil outfits as well! Plus, they will also greet you in Spanish!

The last day was the most tiring and fun day of the week. In the morning, we watched Cheermania to support College of Science. Unfortunately, they didn’t win. Better luck next time and congratumalaysia to the winners! (Ano daw?!)

We then ate at the newly renovated McDo, Lacson branch expecting that we would still get Quarter Pounders for free! Yes, you heard it right, FOR FREE!! They were giving lots of freebies to their first 100 customers every hour if I’m not mistaken.

The mass ended with all of us lighting our candles during the final blessing then sang the UST Hymn! :)

40, 000 voices followed afterwards! I seriously thought it would be failure but I was wrong. UST turned into a big Red Box with all of its students singing their hearts out! Photo credit goes to Ten, Patty and Cams! :-bd

To end this post, here’s a photo of the Grand Fireworks display from James Yayen. The songs included in the pyromusical were Rolling In the Deep by Adele and Yellow by Coldplay! It almost made me cry, I felt very lucky to witness such amazing event. The whole day was exhausting but it was really worth it. UST never fails to make every Thomasian feel how fortunate they are to be one. Proud Thomasian for 6 years now and still counting! 500 years, here we come!!! :D
